How to watch (and co-stream) TwitchCon 2017
TwitchCon 2017 is right around the corner and we’re so excited to see the bright and shining faces of the Twitch community at the Long Beach Convention Center. There’s a lot to look forward to — from the Keynote, to the Panels, to the Party (which is on a boat, by the way), to the show floor.
That said, we know not everyone can make the trip (BibleThump) to join us in person. Fear not, even if you can’t attend you can still join in on the fun from home! That’s because every one of our panels, stages, and educational sessions will be streamed live. In fact, we’re one-upping all previous TwitchCons with a whopping 11 official channels which will cover, well, basically everything. This includes awesome content like the Cosplay Contest, Twitch Yearly, the H1Z1 Invitational (which features $500,000 in prizing and dozens of your favorite streamers), a whole heap of panels and sessions, and a, frankly, so so much more that we can’t fit it in this blog post. I mean, we are a live streaming platform, it would be kind of weird if we didn’t stream everything.
Cool, so how do I watch from home?
Thankfully, we’ve managed to aggregate all official TwitchCon 2017 channels on our handy TwitchCon.com home page (it’ll go live when TwitchCon goes live) where you can browse all the main streams in one place. However, we know a lot of folks will be IRL streaming from the show floor, co-streaming along with us from home, or streaming from booths and streamer zones, so we’ve also created a ‘game’ titled TwitchCon 2017. If your favorite broadcaster is streaming from (or co-streaming) TwitchCon you’ll find them right there on the game directory.
********Also, while you’re watching, you can Cheer for Charity! For every 100 Bits Cheered during TwitchCon on all 11 TwitchCon channels, Twitch will donate $1 to charity. No hashtag needed! What’s a “co-stream?”
Once again, we’re inviting the entire Twitch Community to get involved with TwitchCon by allowing co-streaming of all official TwitchCon content. Co-streaming basically means you can capture and stream anything found on our event portal to your own audience. In particular, we highly encourage our partners, affiliates, and every day streamers to co-stream along with us as we bring you the TwitchCon Keynote so you can share your reaction to our big announcements live with your viewers.
For the less technically inclined, here’s how you do it:
How to co-stream TwitchCon show with OBS
In OBS, look to the “Sources” panel on the lower left and click the “+” icon
Select “BrowserSource” from the menu
A new screen will open. In the URL field, add the URL for the Twitch stream you’d like to co-stream — twitch.tv/twitch/embed or twitch.tv/twitchpresents/embed
If needed, change the width, height, and FPS to match your stream settings in OBS. Click “OK” to close that window, and then press “Start Streaming”
In your Twitch dashboard, set your game to “TwitchCon 2017” and begin streaming
You are co-streaming TwitchCon. You won. Congratulations.
How to co-stream TwitchCon show with XSplit
First, ensure you are using XSplit Version 3.0.1 or higher only
Locate the “Add” button and select “Webpage”
In the URL field, add the URL for the Twitch stream you’d like to co-stream — twitch.tv/twitch/embed or twitch.tv/twitchpresents/embed
If needed, change the width, height, and FPS to match your stream settings in XSplit.
In your Twitch dashboard, set your game to “TwitchCon 2017” and begin streaming
