Introducing Extensions: the next evolution in live streaming

UPDATE: Twitch Extensions are now live for streamers and developers. The Extensions that streamers can add to their channel page are available on the Twitch dashboard under “Extensions Manager.” Developers can log into the developer site to get started and dive into the documentation to begin building interactions today.

We know how much time and energy you put into building your channel and community — and it hasn’t always been easy to find the right tools to integrate with your stream and connect you to your viewers.

That’s why we’re excited to bring you Twitch Extensions, a brand new suite of tools that empowers you to make your channel more interactive than ever before. Built by the community, for the community, Twitch Extensions bring a new world of live apps to live streaming.

Extensions are interactive video overlays and panels that are directly integrated with your live stream. With Extensions, your viewers can interact with you, each other, or the game you’re playing in ways that were never thought possible.

For example, you can add Extensions that allow viewers to mouse over Hearthstone cards directly on the game board to see card details, collectively vote for your next move in real-time, check out the gear you’re sporting, or even take care of virtual pets all from your channel page. And this is only the beginning of what Extensions can do. Third party developers are already hard at work on all kinds of fun Extensions so you can expect to see more and more available over the coming months from names you already know and trust.

We’ve already seen unprecedented levels of engagement with Extensions. Earlier in May, we started to test a few of them, and the response from streamers and viewers was incredible, confirming that Extensions are a great way to engage your audience and keep them coming back for more.

A few Extensions on the way

• Destiny Armory Overlay by Grab Games: Dive into Destiny gear, view details on perks, get class info, and more — all seamlessly incorporated into the stream.

• Gear on Amazon: This panel highlights Partners and Affiliates’ favorite products on Amazon, making it easy for viewers to find and purchase them. It also helps fans support their favorite creators, since members of the Amazon Associates program earn commissions.

• Hearthstone Match Ticker by Battlefy: Live ticker for Hearthstone tournaments on Battlefy.

• Innkeeper: Interactive Hearth Overlay by Curse: Interactive deck overlay and card tooltips.

• Isaac Tracker by Pretzel Tech: Allows viewers to view the level seed and details on items picked up while playing Binding of Isaac.

• Kappa Pet by Porcupine: A virtual pet that lives on the channel page, which responds to viewers, evolves as the stream runs, and goes to sleep when the creator is offline.

• Leaderboard by Muxy: Automatically displays the channel’s top five cheerers.

• Live Emote Reactions by Porcupine: Allows viewers to react by sharing emotes live.

• Loyalty, Music, Polls & Games by Streamlabs: Shows loyalty points, displays polls, lets viewers enter giveaways, and host mini-games.

• MasterOverwatch by Master Network: On-screen statistics overlay for Overwatch broadcasters.

• OP.GG For League of Legends by OP.GG: Provides in-game statistics for creators, including summoner spells, runes, and masteries.

• Overlay by Muxy: One stream overlay with many interactive apps.

• Schedule by Layer One: Keep your community up to date on your scheduled Twitch events in their local timezone.
