TwitchCon update: Charity edition

$46 million and counting. That’s how much money the Twitch community has raised for charity to date. With impressive numbers like that, it’s only right that charities and fundraisers have a special place at TwitchCon. Today, we’re proud to announce the return of Charity Plaza for TwitchCon 2016 and presenting sponsor, Tiltify.

Charity Plaza will feature booths from a variety of charities so guests and streamers can learn how to use Twitch as a platform to raise money for good causes. This will include St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Doctors Without Borders, AbleGamers, Extra Life, Operation Supply Drop, Gamers Outreach, Stack-Up, Save the Children, GameChanger and American Red Cross.

The main event will be the Charity Decathlon featuring 60 Partnered streamers including Aureylian, AnneMunition, ActaBunniFooFoo, Trick2g, Witwix, and JoshOG. Broken down into groups of six, each team will be assigned one of ten different charities. Throughout each day of the show, streamers will compete live on stage in various video game, speed art, and baking competitions for your entertainment and to earn points for their charities. After three days of action, the highest-scoring charity will receive the largest slice of the donation pot and the team will earn the title of Tiltify Charity Decathlon Champions. All other charities will then divvy up the remaining donations, so nobody will go home empty handed. Maybe just a little salty.

Fans can contribute to the donation pot in the following ways:

  • Contributing to fundraising efforts by participating streamers throughout August and September

  • Bidding in art auctions held during TwitchCon 2016

  • Participating in other fundraising activities to be announced at the convention

The Decathlon kicks off at the Charity Plaza stage on Friday, September 30 at 2:00pm PT. All matches, plus segments spotlighting each participating charity, will be streamed on http://twitch.tv/Tiltify so even if you can’t make it to TwitchCon, you can watch it all go down and donate to some worthy causes.
